Carbon Neutral Silver Jewellery
We work closely with our suppliers to assess the energy used during the manufacture and transportation of Mahmon silver jewellery and the Mahmon silver jewellery box. We then use formulas developed by DEFRA to estimate the amount of CO2 gas produced as a result of generating that amount of energy. From this we are able to calculate the Carbon Footprint for every Mahmon product.
By working with co2balance.com we then offset the Carbon Footprint of every Mahmon product by reducing CO2 in the atmosphere through investments in UK based afforestation projects and energy saving projects in Africa. These projects reduce CO2 in the atmosphere in 2 ways:
Firstly, through the planting of trees, C02 is reduced directly as trees are net consumers of C02. Secondly, by providing energy saving technology to areas of Africa that would otherwise struggle to gain access to such technology; items such as solar powered ovens and solar powered lanterns, that massively reduce the net output of CO2. In most cases these projects also greatly benefit the local communities by working with them to set up the manufacture of the energy saving technologies within the community.
In addition, we maintain the Mahmon design studio as carbon neutral, run a low energy use policy and run this site on 100% solar power. All of this means we can confidently call our products carbon neutral, and you can buy them knowing that you have not contributed to the increase in CO2 gas in the atmosphere.
A complete copy of our ethical and environmental policy can be downloaded from our Morals of Mahmon page.
